FYI: Midcap core and value mutual funds have played performance cat and mouse in the past 15 years, while midcap growth funds have lagged far behind.
An investment of $10,000 in the average midcap value fund on Sept. 30, 1999, would have grown to $42,015 by Oct. 13 this year, according to Morningstar Inc. data. The same investment in midcap core funds, which invest in both growth and value stocks, would have swelled to $40,696
