Can You Help This Man Get A New Mortgage ?

FYI: Things have come to a pretty pass when even Ben Bernanke can’t refinance his mortgage, as he lamented at a conference in Chicago on Thursday.

  • What's his CREDIT rating? Lots of rich people don't pay their bills! Sorry no credit, no loans...esp. 1099 earners
So the rest of the story is what?

I like how people laughed like they thought he was kidding. ("The audience reportedly laughed, and Bernanke responded: “I’m not making that up.” http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/10/06/ex-fed-chief-bernanke-denied-loan-to-refinance-his-home/)
  • People that pay with cash don't have much if anything on their credit history.
  • Quit his job, no steady income (w2s), suspect credit...three strikes Ben your 0ut............or maybe house already over financed (known as underwater)
  • @ John Chisum:

Years ago I had a Branch Chief, who later became a Division Chief, and then became (the) Laboratory Chief (of a Laboratory with international repute). He (& his wife) did not believe in debt. Eventually however they decided to buy a house (presumably with a pretty large down payment). They had a LOT of trouble getting a mortgage -- NO credit history! Eventually some wise heads managed to figure out that he was probably "good".
