What a dilemma! I like coffee but I tried Dunkin Donuts' coffee once when on the road and it tasted like dishwater... only worse. Can't speak for their new Bold Roast coffee, but I'm guessing it tastes like Tijuana street runoff.
I don't see an ethical dilemma here (and I didn't see one back on the FundAlarm discussion). The vendor has developed a marketing tool. (It's also a deductible expense.) Although you may not need the financial services or want the coffee, you have, or would have, sat through a presentation and maybe decided, this FA is OK. I'll take his business card, in case somebody asks me. Coffee: if you try the new coffee, you can always mention to someone else looking for coffee, DD has a new coffee. Could be worth trying.
I don't know anyone in the business of selling services or products who would limit the circle of potential buyers to those showing up in immediate vicinity. It's not always who you know. It's very often who THEY know. Called referrals.
