ETF Deathwatch for November 2011: Count Surges to Record High

Comments

  • Out of the 37 added to the list take away the ETN's and you have 17. ETN's are not ETF's. Now estimate that half or more of the ETF's will be taken off the deathwatch list
    and you have to wonder why this list is relevant.

    ETF = exchange traded fund.
    ETN = exchange traded note.
    Night and day. Apples and oranges.
  • Yeah you are right that the list includes ETNs and ETNs are different than ETFs. Perhaps the author should have said ETP (Exchange Traded Product). Anyway, most of the gimmicky ETPs will be gone. They have miniscule trading volumes.
  • The Advisorshares Mars Hill fund was never particularly good and barely ever traded. While actively managed ETFs are the "thing of the moment", Advisorshares is putting out a few too many just to put product on market. The Advisorshares Cambria Fund (GTAA) has been disappointing and the new Trimtabs Float Shrink fund seems too esoteric and probably won't last.
