The Closing Bell: S&P 500 Pulls Back From 2000 Mark

FYI: The S&P 500 index crossed 2000 for the first time Monday, marking the latest leg in the U.S. stock market's historic bull run.
The benchmark climbed to an intraday record high of 2001.94 early before drifting back and spending the session parked just below the 2000 mark. It was recently up 11 points, or 0.5%, to 1999 in late afternoon trade.

The milestone came on an otherwise quiet summer day for the stock market. Other stock benchmarks also made strides. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was recently up 85 points, or 0.5%, to 17085. The Nasdaq Composite Index gained 21 points, or 0.5%, to 4560.
