If you know where (on the web) I can find historical data on the following 2 indices, please let me know: the Leading Economic Index (from the conference board), and the Baltic Dry Index. My data on these (weekly close) only goes back 2-3 years, and it's not long enough to be useful. Thx!
Thx! That did help me extend LEI backward, though I've had to pull some tricks to smooth over discontinuous breaks where they changed the index reference point.
Here is an obsecure area that you may also choose to backtest...$DJUSPP.
The link below to stockcharts is set for 50/200 day and for 3 years with weekly pricing.
If you place $DJUSPP at Google Finance, google will find a choice for this index just below the quote box. Click on the $DJUSPP listed as company name. This will update the ticker symbol. At this point, look to the left margin, under the word Summary and you will find "historic prices". Click onto this for the short term price list (date range will be shown). At this point, you will see a "date range"; and may also select daily or weekly prices. Select "weekly" and then change the start date to Feb 5 2000 and click the related icon (next to the current date) and the page will reload with all weekly closing prices from the start date through the current date. You will find the forward, backward arrows icons at the end of the price listing; so that you may do the big jump to the begin date to start with those numbers.
This is a handy tool for those looking for historic prices for any ticker/symbol that google can find a match.
