I'm a so/so sports fan, but it's hard to escape when your team is playing for the cheese. I was a freshman in 1966 with Bubba and Webster and the Notre Game 10/10 tie.
It's been a bit nuts living around here with the sports success of the Spartans. Huge impact on the local economy - sports bars, shirts, etc. I've been fortunate in having started in 66 with the football team, returning twice to finish up in 78/79 when this kid named Earvin Johnson from Everett (my alma mater) decided to go to MSU. They issued tickets based on student # and I only had 6 digits. Got case seats for every home game. Not much of a basketball fan, but the show . . . Haven't been to a game in years, but volunteer in W. J. Beal Botanical garden across the river from the stadium every football Saturday to show people around (or keep them from peeing on the plants). You can tell around campus when they have a serious winning team. It's in the air.
