Here's a statement of the obvious: The opinions expressed here are those of the participants, not those of the Mutual Fund Observer. We cannot vouch for the accuracy or appropriateness of any of it, though we do encourage civility and good humor.
Yes, that should work fine. But it also wouldn't hurt to diversify that IRA a bit by funding the MMKT with a reasonable amount. We use the SNSXX Treasury MMKT. Little point in having a MMKT acct with only $1.00 in it.
With respect to Schwab IRAs why not just transfer a small amount of whatever's there now to a new MMKT account within the IRA? In fact both of our IRAs consist, at the moment, of nothing but MMKT accounts currently paying about 5%. And of course tho…
@Derf- yes, one plumber sent a video snake through the under the house and we could clearly see the ragged edge of the defective pipe casting. I can't remember exactly, but it might have been in a cast iron fitting in the line rather that the pipe i…
@BaluBalu - I'm very doubtful that any HO policy would cover "routine" maintenance. Tree roots are always a potential problem with sewer lines. These days they can use very high pressure water hoses to cut the roots from inside the pipe, but those r…
Hey, don't knock the "thin stuff". Our century-old SF home has a somewhat marginal sewer system- one section of the original 4" cast-iron sewer line, buried under the cement basement, apparently has a casting defect which left a small protrusion on …
@Derf - going way back MFO even had a separate "Resource" section devoted to book recommendations available at Amazon. As far as I know there is no proscription to book or other media recommendations here, as long as there is no commercial relations…
@Junkster - We have a checking account through the Schwab Bank in addition to our brokerage trust and individual IRA accounts. Are there other checking options available at Schwab? Thanks- OJ
I have no idea regarding the comparison of the TD vs Schwab web platforms. Like most things of this nature there's likely both good and bad to be said of either.
But I'm not particularly sympathetic about the complaints of "a 23-year-old client" wh…
• 5/14/24: Justice Department: Boeing Violated Settlement Over 737 Max Problems
Following are short excerpts from a current New York Times Report:
The Department of Justice said on Tuesday that Boeing was in violation of a 2021 settlement relate…
@sma3- Great article- thanks. One thing puzzled me- it shows CA as being profitable for the past four years, yet the insurance companies are running away like a bunch of cockroaches. No info given on that.
"because the insurer is lowballing the FMV, it is totaling cars that it should have repaired, and thus benefiting too much from the salvage value."
@msf - yes, that's the way that I read it also.
The San Francisco Chronicle is today reporting that State Farm has raised their rates across California, with the average increase about 20%. The Chronicle has mapped out those increases according to location Zip codes.
Some Californians saw their r…
@Roy - You mentioned the Progressive Insurance company, above. I just came across an article in the San Francisco Chronicle regarding Progressive. Here are some excerpts from that article:
Car insurance companies and affiliated software developers c…
"a mission of "to win the war". Without human emotion, at all cost"
@Derf- I really don't want to start a potentially divisive situation on this, but I was rather thinking of the terrible situation in Gaza. The entire area turned into a desert of d…
"a better, more inclusive, homeowners policy"
Having used a fair number of different insurance companies throughout our times it seems to me that all of the homeowners policies are virtually identical, with specification labels such as "HO-1", "HO-…
Yes, I believe that the Washington Post broke this story. If that man wins the election we immediately become a third-world type government. The bastard has absolutely no shame- he actually brags on what he's going to do to this country. Good luck t…
No sir, your FDIC coverage should be fine. It's just that I prefer to spread my income generation a bit more than that. Again, think about Treasuries... similar income, no FDIC issues at all and the Treasury ain't going out of business.
