edited August 2020 in Off-Topic
From my perspective Pelosi is enemy number one! Wow and she is Speaker of the House ... Go figure the liberal dems.

For those interested in reading more about Pelosi's crap below is the link.

She needs to go and take Chuck, Alan and a few others with her on her way out! Drain the Swamp.

@Old_Skeet It’s pretty ironic you’re posting this propaganda published by an actual enemy of our democracy.
  • Right. Speaker Pelosi is the problem. How dare she care about what's happening to our country.
  • give it up, OS
  • Anyone who would call our independent press “the enemy of the people” would seem to fit that definition. Kill free expression and you’ve killed democracy. The first thing dictatorial regimes do upon seizing control is replace the legitimate media outlets with their own puppets.

Well, Trump, Putin, Kim Jong-un and Xi Jinping are sure in agreement on that one. OS looks to be right in there with them.

That's certainly one of the first things. The Bard had a different take:
Shakespeare's exact line ''The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers,'' was stated by Dick the Butcher in ''Henry VI,'' Part II, act IV, Scene II, Line 73. Dick the Butcher was a follower of the rebel Jack Cade, who thought that if he disturbed law and order, he could become king.

Those attacks on lawyers Shakespeare noted are eerily reminiscent of recent (mostly verbal) attacks on our judiciary. https://apnews.com/c4b34f9639e141069c08cf1e3deb6b84
  • Old Skeet,

I am beginning to wonder if you are a Russian operative. Do you know anything about the Zero Hedge site you are fond to quote? It is owned and operated by a shady Bulgarian who supports Vladimir Putin. Read about here:

Very ironic that you would accuse Nancy Pelosi of being un- American by quoting an article from an extremely questionable source tied to Russia.
  • Didn't Pelosi say something about passing ACA & we'll read it later. I believe she was also charging the tax payer for her trips from home to DC !
    Derf
  • [Snopes]
... the sense of Pelosi’s remarks was that the benefits (in her view) of the bill — rather than the contents of the bill — would be fully revealed to the public only after the legislation was passed and implemented.

So here is what she actually said, which is fully sensible but never contextualized properly or accurately by rightwingnuts:

Imagine an economy where people could follow their aspirations, where they could be entrepreneurial, where they could take risks professionally because personally their families' healthcare needs are being met. Where they could be self-employed or start a business, not be job-locked in a job because they have healthcare there, and if they went out on their own it would be unaffordable to them, but especially true, if someone has a child with a pre-existing condition. So when we pass our bill, never again will people be denied coverage because they have a preexisting condition.

We have to do this in partnership, and I wanted to bring [you] up to date on where we see it from here. The final healthcare legislation that will soon be passed by Congress will deliver successful reform at the local level. It will offer paid for investments that will improve healthcare services and coverage for millions more Americans. It will make significant investments in innovation, prevention, wellness and offer robust support for public health infrastructure. It will dramatically expand investments into community health centers. That means a dramatic expansion in the number of patients community health centers can see and ultimately healthier communities. Our bill will significantly reduce uncompensated care for hospitals.

You’ve heard about the controversies within the bill, the process about the bill, one or the other. But I don’t know if you have heard that it is legislation for the future, not just about healthcare for America, but about a healthier America, where preventive care is not something that you have to pay a deductible for or out of pocket. Prevention, prevention, prevention --– it’s about diet, not diabetes. It’s going to be very, very exciting.

But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy.
  • I have made that point before also @Tarwheel. Having differing views on politics has always been American. Sharing and using a Bulgarian web site with ties to Russia, a country who has made it clear it is working to cause division and chaos between our people in an attempt to degrade our democracy, is very questionable indeed.

@Old_Skeet, do you not realize or do you just not care that you are sharing questionable, manipulated information from a foreign state meant to subvert our democracy? It must be one of those 2 things. Why not find a more reputable source to highlight your views, or does one not exist?
  • @MikeM, I'm going with option 'B'. It could just be me but the crickets are almost deafening when you ask OS or those of similar views to validate their claims from reputable sources. Sad.
